If you’re after a crunchy snack with a satisfying bite, Big Star Spicy BBQ Pork Crackle delivers on texture. From the first handful, the crispiness stood out, giving that unmistakable crackle and crunch you’d expect from a good pork snack.
Flavour-wise, it reminded me a lot of Nobby’s Pork Crackle, with that rich, savoury pork profile coming through nicely. The “Spicy BBQ” label might set expectations for a bit of heat, but in reality, the spice was very mild; if anything, it was more of a smoky BBQ flavour than a chilli kick. Still, the seasoning worked well with the natural pork taste, making it easy to keep snacking. If you prefer your pork snacks with more chilli flavour, the Oloiya Chilli Pork Jerky brings a stronger spicy-savoury hit.
One thing worth noting is there was a faintly unusual smell when opening the bag. It didn’t carry over into the flavour, so it didn’t spoil the experience, but it was noticeable enough to mention.
Overall, I enjoyed it. It’s a tasty alternative to the usual nuts or chips, especially if you like a light, crunchy snack that’s big on pork flavour without being overly greasy.
Score: 7/10 – Crisp, tasty, and satisfying, but a little underwhelming in the spice department.
