Chappy’s Dill Pickle Kettle Cooked Potato Chips Review

I recently discovered Chappy’s at Decanters By The Bay, a craft beer and bottle shop in Port Melbourne, which is a new culinary discovery in itself, as it has some very nice local Melbourne and Australian food products there as well.

The Review

My first thought was that the bag is quite empty but the weight was only 80g and I’m old enough to understand that by filling the bag up with air, it prevents the chips from getting crushed. All the chips in here looked to be in great condition

I don’t think I’ve ever had pickle-flavoured potato chips before, and the fact that these are kettle-boiled is great. Kettle-boiled potato chips are certainly the best kind. Every single chip in the bag is crispy and crunchy as can be and absolutely smothered in tangy pickle flavouring.

I could definitely taste a bit of vinegar and citrus to it, so checking the ingredients here’s what’s in it:

Potatoes: The base ingredient for the chips.

High Oleic Sunflower Oil: Used for frying.

Salt: For flavouring.

Cane Sugar: Adds a touch of sweetness.

Dry Vinegar: Provides the tangy dill pickle flavour.

Dill Weed: A key ingredient for the dill pickle taste.

Dill Seed: Adds another layer of dill flavour.

Citric Acid: A preservative and flavour enhancer.

Garlic Powder: Contributes to the savoury flavour.

Black Pepper: Adds a subtle spiciness.

Parsley: Provides a fresh, herbaceous note.

Cayenne Powder: Adds a touch of heat.

Maltodextrin (in some variations): A thickening agent.

Overall, 10/10, I couldn’t fault this at all. I am sure I’ll be buying these again.
