For lunch today, I finally tried the new Big Arch burger, which came out in Australia recently. I’d seen the banners up for a few days but have never been hungry enough to tackle it. As it looked quite big, and apparently it is.
The Big Arch weighs about 400 grams and is 4 times the weight of a Quarter Pounder. It certainly resembles a blend of the Big Mac and the Quarter Pounder, but with slightly more upscale ingredients, featuring three layers of white cheddar cheese instead of the typical yellow cheese, crispy onions, and the Big Arch sauce as the key features of this burger.
The Big Arch sauce reminds me of Big Mac sauce, but perhaps mixed with mustard, it is a bit more orange in colour. Something in this burger has a slightly spicy aftertaste, but I’m not sure if it’s the sauce or the crispy onions.
Interestingly, the burger has both crispy and raw onions, which is unusual to find combined. The onions, as well as pickles, might make this incredibly unappealing to some people, but I’m cool with all of these and think the mixture of flavours and textures works well. I love crispy onions on burgers, and it’s not something I’ve had in a long time.
