Review: Bhuja Ancient Grain Twists, Beer Mix & Crunchy Seasoned Peas

Ancient Grain Twists

The Ancient Grain Twists by Bhuja remind me of an Indian snack that my dad used to buy me as a kid, which appears to be called Soya Sticks. This is very similar but probably a healthier alternative given the 3.5/5 Health Star Rating on the packet. and this product is made in Australia from at least 70% Australian ingredients.

These give a spicy surprise. I’m sure people buy these, not noticing the little chilli on the front of the packet, the emphasis is on the wholesomeness of it and that it contains Omega-3 rather than describing the flavour.

It’s a good thing I like spicy snacks! These are delicious and have a good level of spice that makes it easy to eat them without needing a drink to wash them down. One could easily demolish the whole bag in one go. Being suitable for vegans and vegetarians, this is a great guilt-free snack that is much healthier for you than similar products.

Highly recommended!

Beer Mix

The Beer Mix is another product I buy regularly when it’s on sale. It has a great mix of different textures but it all more or less tastes the same to me. My main issue with this is that the weight distribution of the different foods tends to centrifuge itself in such a way that you’re eating all the lighter and larger snacks first with the smaller or heavier parts last. Ideally, I’d like to eat an even mix of everything in each handful.

Highly recommended!

Crunchy Seasoned Peas

I actually thought these were wasabi peas when I grabbed them at the supermarket and was somewhat disappointed to try them to be only mildly spicy. That being said, they are still delicious. with a light flavour of paprika and chilli and are exactly as crunchy as you’d want a crunchy pea to be. One thing that stood out to me on the packaging here is that unlike the Ancient Grain Twists and Beer Mix, it does not show a Health Star Rating on the packet. I don’t know if this was an oversight by their marketing department or design team, or maybe being a new product line, it hasn’t received its certification yet.

Highly recommended!

Overall, I would say the Ancient Grain Twists are the best of these 3 products.
